Why I Do Not Rate My Reviews
Question: Why don’t you assign star or number ratings to your book and product reviews?
Answer: Because the relevance and quality of a book or product depends upon what the reader or user wants from it.
For example, the Latinos’ Root Cause Analysis is one of the definitive reference manuals on RCA work and failure analysis. However, an average engineer-in-training or entry-level college graduate would have a difficult time reading this book and then applying it in the field. In the absence of mentoring from an experienced, knowledgable failure analyst, the book alone would help, but might not get the job done.
Since adding these kinds of caveats would excessively offset the value of a concise “rating,” I have chosen to forgo stars, letter grade, or numerical rankings.
By concentrating on the content of the book, key takeaways, applications of the knowledge, and lessons learned, I hope to create the most possible value for the reader so they can decide for themselves how relevant the content is to their needs.
